Cracking distorting at low-high volumes

I have a kenwood cd player, an amp and sub box with 2 10's. i have the signal going to the amp off the rear right channel to the built in high level input on the amp. I have the suba wired to the right channel output on the amp. I have factory speakers up front and pyramid 6x9's out back. i was listening to my music loud today and i starting hearing some unusual cracking noises. My stereo usually sounds good with no distortion up to 29 on my volume level and it goes to 35. Now it sounds horrible above 17. Did I blow the speakers or the outputs on the radio and how would this happen??

See if the crackling sound is coming from all the speakers, or if it's isolated to one, or a pair.  If it's a 92 with factory dash speakers up front, there's a good chance the sun has caused the foam surrounds to deteriorate.

The front speakers are in the doors. It is comming from all speakers. When the volume is low it sounds great. Turn it up a bit and when the bass hits it's a crack sound. Turn it up more and it sounds horrible.

Does this also happen when you hit a bump sometimes?  If so, check to make sure no speaker wires are touching metal anywhere.  You can also try disconnecting one of the speakers, and see if the problem goes away.  If it does not, reconnect it, and move to the next one.

It only sounds bad when I turn it up past low listening level. I'll check my speaker connections.

Connections are good.

If you disconnected them one at a time, and found no difference, then disconnect the high level inputs on the amp and see if the noise goes away.  It could be causing impedence problems.  You could also try disconnecting all speakers, and connecting them one at a time directly to the deck- there maybe a pinched wire in the factory door boot somewhere (or something to that effect) that's causing the problem.

I put in my factory cd player and everything sounds fine. What went wrong with the head unit?

I couldn't tell you for sure, but if that unit is new, that's a warranty issue and should be addressed as such.
