Can any one please help me. I am installing a new kenwood deck and when I use the radio on it there is engine noise and when I turn the engine off and use the radio on acc it sounds fine. What should I do? I had a different aftermarket radio in it before the kenwood and it did not do this.
First try and find a new ground behind the dash. Sand the spot to remove all paint so you have bare metal then attach it. Also do you have and amps rca cables etc? post your results
I tried a new groud location under the dash that was less than 3 feet and it still made the noise. I do have 3 pairs of rca cables and three amps but the aps are not in the car anymore and the rca cables are disconnected.
Thanks for your help
It only does this when it is on FM when it is on AM it doesn't make the noise.
Please help
Do you have a tape or CD player if so do you get engine noise when playing a cd or tape? .or is it only on the AM FM antenna. Also is the noise a whine that changes pitch with the RPM’s of the car? And are the RCA cables connected to the head unit (radio)? If the RCA cables are still connected disconnect them.
The RCA cables are disconnected. The noise is a steady noise of the same pitch that increases volume with the RPM's. It only makes this noise on the FM frequency and not on the AM frequency or when a cd is playing it magicaly stops then.
Thanks again for all of your help
Check your antenna connection where it connects to the radio. Did you have to buy any new connectors? Is the antenna pinched any where? Also make sure if it has any male connectors that they are all straight. You could also have a bad ground at the base (where the antenna is mounted) of the antenna. Check all that and get back at me.
I have a antenna adapter that is from wal-mart and is not the greatest, do you think that this could be the problem because when I take the adapter off to put the antenna into the stock deck it sounds fine.
Thanks for your help again
ell either the head is bad or the adapter. I would get a good quality antenna adapter and it will probably work. To check the head go to a local auto parts store and buy a cheap antenna and use it to test the head. If it works then you know the antenna or the adapter is bad. But first defiantly replace the adapter will probably save you some time.
