He all, sorry if this has already been asked a thousand times on here but i didn't see it posted yet and this site's wiring info was only a little help. Here's my dilemma...i got a 95 Lumina and just bought a new stereo. It's only had a factory stereo in it. There are thirteen wires and all are unlabeled. Can someone tell me what they all are before i try to put this in? Here's the colors... 2 Yellow 1 brown 1 tan 1 light blue 1 dark blue 2 dark green 2 light green 1 orange 1 black w/ white stripe 1 gray w/ black stripe I can guess which ones are which, but want to know for sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If the plug's not cut, do yourself a favor and get a wiring harness - Metra Part no. 70-1858 or equivalent.
I'm not sure how the site's wiring info was only a little help - it exactly matches what you're describing. The only thing that's the least bit hard to get is the two yellow wires, but that's easy.
The switched 12v wire is going to show 12 volts DC with the key on assuming the fuse is good...the yellow speaker wire won't.

This site's wiring guide doesn't tell me the difference between the two dark green wires. I did buy a wiring harness but the plug on it was completely different than the plug-in on the stereo.

That tells us you got the wrong plug. Save yourself the headache and do it right- go back and locate the correct harness.

I'm taking a guess since I can't see what the plug looks like. Every Lumina I've done a radio in has had basically the same connector - they never had a factory premium sound option or anything as far as I know.
The harness connector on the car may vary a bit...I've seen some where the connector is basically one piece divided into sections, and some where there are 4 separate plugs. They are still pretty similar though.
You will have two plugs or sections with 4 wires each, matching the speaker wire colors; and one with 6 wires including the ground, constant and switched power, possibly the power antenna/amp turn-on, and 2 others which are for illumination.
You also may have a fourth plug/connector section which only has one or two wires in it, and may be slightly oversized and not fit your wiring adaptor that you're using. This contains the Vehicle Speed Sensor wire, which I believe is indeed green.
This is used for speed-compensated volume on your factory head unit, and cannot and should not be interfaced with an aftermarket deck.
Let me know if this is right...it also may help if you can take a pic of the factory wiring connector and post it here.

Hey all, thanks for your help. I got it figured out and my new stereo is sounding excellent! New question now...i need to replace the EGR valve and want to save myself from being raped by some high priced mechanics. I'm thinking i can do it myself, is there anything i need to do or know before i do it?

No, nothing special, just grab some tools, see where everything goes when you take it apart so you know how to put it back together. ------------- My ex once told me I have a perfect face for radio.
