I have a 2004 Dodge Ram Quad Cab that I had a AVIC N1 in. I recently installed the AVIC D1. The system is now made up of a Rockford 300W amp for the JL sub, a Rockford 400W amp for front Boston Acoustic S65, and rear Boston Acoustic S55. After installing the D1 I have a clicking and thumping sound coming through all the speakers. I used the same RCA cables with the N1. When I move the RCA harness it sounds just like it sounds if you were to rub your hand across a microphone. I called Pioneer and talked to the tech line and they said I have a ground loop problem. The guy on the phone advised me to take a wire and wrap it around the outside of the RCA cables and ground them. I did just like he advised and it got rid of the thumping but I still have the clicking. Any ideas what else I could do. Thanks In Advance......Scott
Does this happen whenever you turn on the turn signals or step on the brake, or is it just at random? If it's at random, I'd take the unit back and try a replacement. If it's under certain conditions (like above), try running a seperate constant and switched lead from the ignition harness, also don't use the factory ground.
It sounds like the Pioneer tech support knows all too well the poor build quality of those units, and the noise problems associated with them. Having to manually ground the RCA's should not be a necessary step to installing new equipment- it just points to a problem that Pioneer has not addressed.

It was happening all the time. You could also here when you put a CD in you could hear the unit reading through the speakers. I took the unit out today and checked everything. I ran all new grounds and nothing changed, I decided to try to take a ground and attach it to the unit where mounting brackets would mount to the side and it seems to have solved the problem. I guess it is a poor design. I have never had to run a ground to the case. Thanks for the reply.......
