hello, i am in the process of building a couple sub boxxes for my vehicle. My sertup will be three seprate boxes, two tuned identical for low bass for the bass tests and rap music, the third will be tuned for rock and country tunes. I am wondering what is an average frequency that would be good to tune my box to for the bass tests and rap and what would be good for the rock n country? thanks allot.
Out of curiosity, are you using your car as a demo vehicle of some sort? And you're wiring it so that you can switch from one type of music to another? If that's the case, I would look for an SPL system for the two boxes vented, with a target Fb of 40 - 45 Hz. Look for an F3 in the mid to low 30's. The single box for more general listening should be sealed SQ. It wouldn't have a "target tuning frequency". Choose the right drivers for each application. My opinion only, others may approach this differently. And I absolutely wouldn't allow all three sub systems to play at the same time.

haha naw it's just my daily driven vehicle, i'll have the two that are tuned the same on one switch and the other on another switch so i can have all of them or just the two or just one. I was kind of trying to avoid building a sealed box, why wouldn't you want all three playing at the same time. IMO it would sound cool if the one box was tuned a bit different do u would have really good spl levels in more than one freqency while a song is playing, wouldnt it? What do you mean by F3? i know Fb means frequency base but i've never herd of F3? thanks for the help.
I would (IF I were doing this, more on that) have the two systems on a toggle switch that could only switch one on at a time, for two reasons: it would sound like crap with all that junk going on, and you wouldn't need to build up so much extra power capability in the alternator/wiring/etc. department. Have two amps set up; one for the SPL and the other for the SQ. When you want to switch, the toggle should be on the remote-on wires behind a relay. Switch one way, one of the systems comes on. Switch the other way, the other system comes on. The interior speakers would be powered from a separate amp which would power up regardless of the switch.
I asked if you were setting up some kind of a special demo vehicle because this is not the smartest way to hook up a sound system. One good sub/mids/tweets/amplifiers/etc setup should handle all the different types of music. You should realize that most of the difference in sub bass in the various kinds of music is already built into the recording. You just need to build the best system you can afford and put the effort into so you can enjoy the different types merely by switching CDs. It's a fact that most people like a variety of music types...but they don't build a different subwoofer system for each type.
Another way to change sub SPL levels, and a lot of sub amps have this built in now, is to use a remote bass level adjustment knob. You can max it for the rap and bring it down some for country if you need to.
