Could anyone explain why my ears were screaming after listening to 4 10" subs? I dunno about the wattage. Although, when I was in my friends car, I listened to his 2 orion H2 12's, and all it really felt like your body was being shook. Whats the reason? Becuase I know his orions had more power going through them than the 4 tens.
I figure it has to be becuase you have more cone area? You have more air being displaced than 2 12's... Anyone care to elaborate?

Hard to say, but it's probably the difference between loudness and simple low frequency reproduction. Louder sounds (no matter where they're coming from) will damage your hearing and make your ears ring. Lower frequencies, especially below 25Hx, affect our bodies more than our ears - indeed, we can't really hear those tones much if at all, but we certainly can feel them. So I'd say that probably one system had better low-frequency reproduction, and the other was simply louder. Stay away from the louder one. Ringing ears means you have lost some hearing, and it never comes back.

Well, when I mean ringing, I mean the bass was so strong the music was distorted so much that all I heard was just a whining... After I got out, it sure felt like I had been around a jackhammer for a while.

I've noticed similar stuff. A guy I knew had four 12's, and while it was really loud and could be heard from far down the street, it just didn't seem to have that take-your-breath-away punch that this other dude's three 10's had. 10's seem to hit super hard when done right.
Personally, if I could do it all over again, I would go with a two or three 10 setup. I like the tighter bass rather than the deeper drop of my two 12's.
