I am installing a pioneer headunit in a 99' dodge ram. I am having a problem with it. I used a scosche wiring harness and it plugs in just fine. But the stereo did not power one.

I traced down the ground wire and it does not go into the harnesses, And there was a clip on the back of the factory stereo. I assume this was the ground for the original stereo. But I tried hooking the 2 togather and nothing happended. Where do I hook the ground to?

where is this seperate ground strap, or do you mean I will have to run a ground wire to the body?

The single wire than either clipped onto the back of the deck or screwed onto the back of the deck was indeed the ground wire. See if the unit turns on with this wire connected. If it does and you still have no sound, connect the remote on lead of your deck to the Blue wire on the Scosche harness, you may have a factory amplified system that needs a turn on trigger.

I did connect the ground wire from the deck to the clip that was on the factory deck. It still did not power up. I don't think this truck has a amplified system, as it isn't an infinity.

The unit should still turn on, because it's grounded through the antenna as well- but you do need to use a ground wire as well.  Did the old unit turn on?  If not check the fuses.  Test the leads at the radio to ensure you're getting constant, switched, and ground.  If those are good, check the fuse on the radio itself (maybe on the harness).  The unit should power on- if it does not, take it back.

Thanks guys. I did not realize the antenna was also used as a ground. The factory unit would power up fine, and all the fuses are good to. The pioneer unit is a used one from another car, the headunit works fine, I tested it out in another car that also had a pioneer.

I will check the antenna later on, thank you again

No, I'm not saying there's something wrong with the antenna, I'm saying the unit should still power on without the ground wire connected because the antenna provides a ground.  Again, you'll still need to use a ground wire.  If you tested the unit in another car, and it works, and the factory radio works, there's a problem in your wiring- or the fuse on the Pioneer blew between the time you tested it and now.  Check all your connections to make sure nothing came loose, and make sure all harnesses are plugged in all the way, no wires have pulled loose, etc.
