My girlfriends sister just got a '91 Pontiac Sunbird, with a tape deck. Before I took a look in the car, I told her I could probably install a head unit for her. Big mistake for me.
The factory HU is essentially a 3.5 inch square in the dash, with a tape player and it's controls down below, near the shifter. Is there any way to put an aftermarket HU in this thing, or is she stuck using a tape adaptor and CD walkman?

There is a factory amp behind the square part of the radio and a dash kit availble to put the deck down below where the tape player is. Get a standard GM harness and antenna adapter for 90's gm cars and unplug the harness from the factory amp, you will find that it plugs right into the adapter harness. The dash kit just snaps in down below and replaces the factory trim piece on that center console. Its not really a hard job, just takes a little more time than usual for someone who has never done it before. Give yourself an hour and a half or so and you should be ok.

Thanks. I've done an 01 Taurus that came out very nice. THAT was a pain in the neck. Do you know who makes the dash kit? It's Metra, I'm assuming...
