I just installed my Kenwood head unit in my '02 GTI. I used the new Metra double din harness and ran a line from the ignition wire and 12V constant wire to the fuse box. The reason why I ran the 12V to the fuse box as well is because the Metra harness' 12V wire doesn't seem to work correctly, when I do it this way there is no power to the head unit. I know that I'm not suppose to wire everything to the fuse box along with the ignition, but that's the only way I can get it to work for right now. My main problem is that everytime I turn off the car all of my presets and audio settings are erased, as all the power is taken away from the head unit. My main question is, how can i fix this without bringing it to a specialist? Can I just tap the 12V wire into a constant fuse, such as my power outlet (since it's always on)? Please help, I am getting very tired of resetting everything. I want to know all of my options before I throw in the towel and take it to an audio place. TIA!

yes that will work run your 12v constant wire to the fuse box and tap into a fuse that has const power, but you should really try to get a diffrent harness and do it the right way
yeah, i thought that would work.. but luckily I've figured it out in the last 2 days.. it's really dumb so I don't want to elaborate on it..

*something to do with a fuse* But thanks for the advice!
