If you're going aftermarket, the new stereo will use different color wires.  You have to test the old one's for proper function.  Those speaker plugs are very similar to other German cars.  Do you have a fader in the center console, if so, the amplifier is in the trunk.  Now is the time to bypass it.  You can either run new wires to each speaker, or run them back to the trunk at the amp.  Many times you will not have wires for the rear speakers behind the deck.  You will have the front mids (doors) and front tweeters (dash).  You also may not have an accessory wire there, either, and may have to run your own.  If you're not comfortable doing all this, save yourself the headache and enlist the help of a professional.
