Can some one help me find one of these wire harness?

I have looked every where with no luck--are they really on national backorder?

thanks

Use a 5520 and splice the amp/sub yourself.

I just picked one up yesterday at a local audio store in Roanoke, VA, not a chain store.  I'm actually not sure it is even the right harness for my vehicle (2006 Explorer)...I've gotten different interpretations  You should be able to find them.

that harness does work for explorer if you have the  premium sound with sub

Brianas:  I do have the factory subwoofer with amp.  However, the harness has RCA pre-outs.  The stock HU does not have RCA pre-outs, which means the stock amp has line level inputs.  So if I replace the HU and keep the stock factory subwoofer and amp (with line level inputs) what are the RCA pre-outs on the harness for???

The RCA's on the harness will plug into your subwoofer output on your new stereo, the other end goes to the factory subwoofer harness.

OK...thanks, but I have three questions.

1) Is the 70-5521 just to connect an aftermarket stereo to the factory subwoofer, or is an "all in one" harness that also covers power, ground, speakers, etc?

2) I've heard conflicting info on whether the factory amp is integral to the factory subwoofer, remotely located in the engine compartment or integral to the factory HU.  Do you know where the factory amp is located in the '06 Explorer?

3) I've also heard consistent reports that the 290 watt "Audiophile" factory stereo in the '06 Explorer sends most of that wattage to the factory subwoofer.  If I use the 70-5521 harness to connect an aftermarket stereo to the car harness leading to the factory subwoofer, will that bypass the factory amp?

1. This harness is actually 2 plugs- one for power, ground, speakers and the other for the subwoofer- so it'll do both.

2. The factory sub uses an external amp (seperate from the headunit).  I'm not sure where it is (although it's not in the engine compartment AFAIK), but it doesn't really matter- if you wire up the harness, you'll be good to go.

3. This is probably true, since subs usually do use the most power in any system.  No, the factory amp will not be bypassed, merely integrated.

Thanks.  I actually got through to Metra tech support today (on a Sunday)!

They confirmed that the 70-5521 will not bypass the factory amp that powers the factory sub (both are in the rear passenger side quarter panel).  So the 70-5521 will retain the use of the factory amp and factory sub while allowing for the addition of an aftermarket HU and aftermarket amp (for the door speakers).
