I have read a few topics but I didnt get a clear picture on how to solve my problem. I have a Kicker KX350.2 two channel amp. The amp was working fine when i first hooked it up but now it wont play and the protection light just blinks. I have 8 guage wires running the power and ground. is this big enough for this amp? i noticed that the amp was very hot when the protection light came on. I tried unhooking the amp but now the protection light just blinks and the amp will not play. could this be a bad ground? i am going to try to make a better spot for the ground today. I have one 15" kicker comp vr 4 ohm speaker right now. I had them installed and the dealer said that it is run in series and has 8 ohms coming out and to bridge it into the amp which will make it 4 ohms. is this correct?
You probably want to check all of the wiring connections to the speakers and amp. You may have something shortingout somewhere momentarily. Your ground could also be bad, so yeah go over all of your wiring. If your speakers is inside of a box you would want to open it up and make sure none of the wires are shorting out in there.
One other thing you can try before removing speaker is take the speaker leads off the amp and then turn off radio then back on see if the with volume on 0 see if the amp goes strait into protection mode. if the light goes green try to hook up another sub or just a speaker at low volume check to see if it plays. if it does and light goes green or whatever than check and or replace wires going to the kicker sub if the amp gets really hot one the volume is probably turned up to loud or to the ohm load is too much so yes do that series thing that person told you about if you dont know how to do it than
take one possitive from speaker and connect it to the opposites side negative. than run one possitive and negative to the remainder two terminals than hook those up to your amp.
the only thing i can also think of is testing the sub take a 12 volt battery and hook one terminal of speaker to the pos an one to the neg if it pops speaker is working.,
One more thing since you have dual coils even if the amp is mono do not hook one coil to one channel on amp and the other coil to the other channel. Volumes will not be matched and can damage voice coil. and if that was done sub maybe no good.
