I am fixing to install a Sirius Satellite Radio in a 2003 Trailblazer.  I have bought the Streamer Replay Radio which is similar to the Sportster model.  Do you have any suggestions on the install?  I don't want to use the power adapter they supplied but go directly to the fuse panel.  I know a little about electronics but not so much about the proper ways to get into a fuse panel on a car.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Kevin Opp

Look at the specs or on the power port on the unit itself.  If it says 6v, then you should use the cigarette adapter that comes with it.  It converts your car's power to the power it needs.  Just buy a cigarette lighter outlet, and wire that to switched power.  Set your meter to ohms and measure from the outside rim of the plug to one of the wires- when you get a reading of nearly 0 ohms, that wire goes to ground.  Connect the other wire to the accessory wire in your vehicle (thick brown under the dash) with an inline fuse.  Test all wires with a meter first.

If your unit runs on 12 volts, you can just cut off the end and wire it direct.  Be sure to use a fuse.

Don't do what I did. I have an 04 TrailBlazer, with a Sirius unit that you can mount on the visor. I Decided to wire mine in to the harness that controles my moonroof / garage door opener / misc. I now have no dash and climate controle lights. The radio still dims, and everything else works. Just no guage lights. It may be worth having an installer do it for you.. If anyone has a solution for me let me know.

the way i wire them is like this...

cut the cig lighter plug end off.. the striped wire is positive.. mount the unit and then run the wire to your ignition harness. To gain access to the ignition harness, remove the 3 seven mill bolts on the lower shroud of your driver side dash. You will then see a large metal shroud under the column. Take the 4 ten mils that hold the shroud out and remove the shroud. Now you will see a large harness with wires.. the THICK orange wire is your accesory wire off your ignition. splice into that wire with the BLACK/ striped wire from your unit. make sure to fuse it!(hint a large blade fuse and 2 female ins spades work great as a fuse holder) take the black wire and ground it. I normally put the shroud back on and then throw on a ring connector and put a small self tapper into the shroud. Then put hte lower dash back on and bam.. your done! it will come on with accesory now like your radio..
