I recently purchased a new Orion H2 12.4 and now I need to find something to power it...
This beast is a dvc 4ohm sub with a 2,000 watt rms rating.
I'm going to wire it to 2ohms, and I'm looking for suggestions on a nice amp to power it.
I was looking at maybe a JBL GTO1201.1 which puts out 1114W x 1 @ 2 Ohms. But I'm open to suggestions.
Wow, that is a VERY inefficient speaker. 84.5 db. You may need tons of power. i assume you plan to port it? Look for an amp with a built-in subsonic filter. That being said, I do like JBL amps. Generally very reliable.

The difference between 1000 watts and 2000 watts is only +3db. The speaker should produce around 115db with 1000 watts input. In a ported enclosure that will increase at the port frequency... but sure, it's more than enough for a daily driver.

Meh, more power if it can be done, more power captin. For a big beast of an amplifier look at the Crossfire VR2000D. It is a big nasty monster that would be the perfect match to your great sub. Nothing wrong with going smaller, however, when one buys a big monster sub like what you have, they generally purchase it for a reason. If this reason is that you wanted the monster, the monster needs to be fed. Feed it properly.
