ok to mount amp vertically?

I want to mount my amp on the back of the trunk against the back seats, but someone told me this is a bad idea as it impedes proper cooling? is this true?

No thats not true. The amp will cool perfectly fine that way, just dont put it upside down

As ravendarat said upside down is a no no, the heat just rises back up into the heatsinks/cooling elements and the amp gets hot, vertical and horizontal are fine and any angle in between is fine
