i just bought an alpine mono amp, model mrd-m301. the box says that it pushes 350 watts rms at 2 ohms and 175 watts rms at 4 ohms. i was wondering if anybody knows how to adjust the ohms or if i even need to adjust it at all. i read the whole manual and it doesnt say anything about it. the amp is all digital so im having a pretty tought time with it. im planning on hooking up the amp to my infinity perfect 12 sub which is 300 watts rms at 4 ohms. i dont want to blow anything so i need to make sure. thanks.

oh yea...i might be replacing the infinity sub with an alpine type r. are the 2 ohm or the 4 ohm models better?

You cannot adjust the amp to the ohms, the amp self adjusts based on the sub hooked up to it. As you have a 4 ohm sub, you will only get a 4 ohm rating from the amp. To get a 2 ohm rating, you need to have the amp see a 2 ohm load. This can be accomplished numberous ways. Here is the most common.

(1) add a second identical sub and wire it in a parallel circuit (see sidebar under Car Audio).

(2) replace with a single dual 4 ohm driver wired in parallel (see same sidebar).

In your case if you want to replace the Infinity sub with a Type R and you will continue to use only one sub, then it must be one of the following types.

(1) a single voice coil 2 ohm model

(2) a dual voice coil 4 ohm model

The MRD-M350 would be ok for your Infinity Perfect, however the amp will have absolutely no head room and the woofer will want more than your amp will be capable of delivering. Another thing is that though i sell Alpine in my store and i believe in most every thing they make is worth the money you pay i totally disagree with the way that they spec out their amplifiers. Notice the full power is 350 watts RMS @ 2 ohms AND 14.4 VOLTS! Now i don't see too many cars having 14.4 volts of available current most have 13.5-12.7 and that is the problem in that the power supply is regulated. I wish that they would quit playing games with the specs and tell it like it is instead of playing SONY EXPLODE games on the public. Its a great amp for a single 10 that  is like the type s not a type r and damn sure don't even think about a type x.

thanks mark @ sounds good to me ... tempe,az
