JBL  A6000GTI  6000 watt amp. perfect match. He will have to do a lot of upgrade to his elc. system to power this beast correctly.

AND what type of car does he plan to put this in? What they did on MTV was of very poor design (IMO). This sub is not for a daily driver!

I really hope that you weren't serious about this subwoofer!! You never seen the show Pimp My Ride? They put one of the MTX Jackhammers in some guy's little hatchback style car. The first ones to ever do it I do believe (don't remember the exact make of the car though) Talk about major modifications! They had to take out the whole back seats and build what looked like a roll cage for this sub. Entire modifications to the shock system and chassis. Then they took a crane and dropped it in since the thing weighs in at around 350 pounds. A couple rows of stacked amplifiers and a floor full of batteries later, they were done with this killer stereo. Instant SPL competition stereo! They even put a db mic in the dash with a warning light to let him know when he is getting it dangerously loud so as to not go deaf. Pretty insane. When the guy got his car back he thought so too...   I too didn't like the job they did on his car, but hey, it ain't mine...

Not real bad if your getting it done by a tv show for free, but I personally wouldn't even think of spending that kind of money on that sub! If your friend wants to spend that kind of money, then make sure he atleast spends it somewhat wisely!!! You could get a seriously awesome stereo system for a lot less than it would take to mess with that Jackhammer. I really think MTX just came out with that sub just to do something different.

They came out with the sub, to be the first company to do it, i dont think its worth it at all, 6 amps all bridged to work in unison, 6 caps and heaps of yellow tops from memory.  If they did it to my car then i wudnt stop them (who wuld), but a pair of nice subs like the Kicker Solo X (first subs that come to mind) properly powered and stuff will absolutly rock, you would only use the jackhammer to be unique and waste precious money.

Tell 'im Steven... These young kids are SOOOOO gullible these days! See how POWERFUL marketing is? "You need a cap!" "You need an Edsel, too!" CH-CHing!!! posted_image SOME people on this board already KNOW what you're gonna say!

::::EDIT::::
And I would hardly call the Jackhammer a "subwoofer". A 60Hz one-note wonder? Sure. Subwoofer? Nope... And I don't know WHERE someone got the idea it's "technically a sound quality woofer". Saw it, heard it. No SQ I could discern.

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

MTX 1000000 was a 60something inch sub... in mid 90s. they put one in a chevy van. it broke due to structural defects I believe. but Id tell your friend to contact mtx and have them build one of them for him........ yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

I seem to remember a Clarion 24 or 32" sub waaaayyyy back when. I do believe Mitsubishi also did a 24" at one time.   Dammit, it was a while ago.... mid-late 80's?

ya but did it way 320 pounds. You need to build a steal box, re-enforce the suspense, huge electrical system upgrade, sound deadning. etc. etc. its gimick not worth the loot.

but, to answer your question - get that JBL amp mentioned previously - it is a BEAST as well!

I remember a sub, I believe it was a 32" sub and I think it was a Fosgate. It has been so long ago and I barely remember it, but the Jackhammer isn't the first. It was steup in a very small car sort of like a gimmick at a car show.

Note the word that keeps coming up again and again is "gimmick."  That should tell you something.  Hell, if you want an ultimate sub that will also be very musical, much more efficient and available by custom order for much less money than the MTX poseur you can have a driver built to your specs based on the Adire Parthenon motor, with whatever size transducer (i.e. "cone") you want attached to it.  Then spend the remaining $2k on your install.

If i were you i would go ahead and tose the jackhamburger idea and go with what dyohn side. Adire is a extremely good company and the will help you to the full extent of there ability. Dude don't get the jackhammer peace of junk. It will gust disappoint you.

Couple of questions/comments...

A) where the hell does one even get one of those damn subs, do they have a freight truck come to there door for an additional 500 bucks or something.

b) Would your friend even know what the jackhammer, or sledghammer (whatever it is) is if it werent for pimp my ride? Yes I saw it, and it looked insane. But you going to trust people who put waterfalls in cars, tvs under cars, tvs in bodykits, and bubble blower exhaust mustangs?

C) I am in college and take tons of marketing, and management classes, and god knows what else classes, and to that edsel comment, you wouldnt believe how much I learn about that damn car. I (being 20) could probly tell any of you older guys more about it than you could tell me lol.

Look for some TEAM RF subs on ebay or something. Probably the most powerful non-gimmiky subs. those SOLO X's look alright too, but I dont know ins and outs for those subs, so dont by any means take my word, just ideas.
