To test if my antenna is working can i hook up any 12v lead from car to the antenna lead? for instance can i take the accessory lead and hook it to my antenna. I know that means whenever the car is on my antenna will be up. But then cant i put a inline switch to control it? thanks

Most radios have an antenna turn on lead. The color is usually blue you should hook that  wire to it.If not shure test that lead with dvm ?

To answer your original question, yes you can jump 12 volts to your power antenna to test it for proper operation.

A simple meter can be purchased at RadioShack for around $20.
