I got a problem., I just recieved my new eclispe 88150 dvc sub today, so now i have three subs. Now the current enclosure holds two 15;s and they are facing the trunk, now the new enclosure im having a hard time getting it in, but it does fit facing the 3 15's up towards the trunk, now my question is with the other enclosure you could hear me down 4 blocks before i pull up, now with the new enclosure firing the subs toward the trunk lid, will i still have the same effect, when its now 3 eclipse 15 inch subs. advice will be greatly appreciated. ------------- goingcrazyonsound

every vehicle is diffrent, I have had best results with subs firing back or up.
we currently have our subs all the way to the rear of the trunk with them firing up. this is the best results we have found so far

what amp(s) are you running? It may change the sound dynamics - why not try it out?

im using the jbl 1200.bp1 amp to run all three of the subs. They are all 4 ohm dvc, which means when i wire them they will put A 2.67 OHM LOAD on the amp which should be prefect, but the amp is one ohm stable and is a switching amp so it puts out the same amount of power at either ohm. I did a search on all the old topics and found out some interesting stuff, that is helping me make up my mind, and im gonna face them upwards, hopefully it will be louder then when i had two of them

Check the sag calculator to make sure the subs can face up.
------------- That's my opinion. Take it, leave it, or correct me.

i checked that sag thing and it says its not good for downfiring, that means up side down not firing up so it looks like im okay ------------- goingcrazyonsound

No, if it's not recommended to downfire, then it's not recommended to upfire either- you still run into the same sag issue.

i figure that out after doing some reading on the link. Then i wnet back to work on my car more determined to fit the box in, and i got it in, after i found out they missed a back piece of metal in the trunk that stopped the box from going in all the way, so now the subs are facing the same way they did before when i had just 2 15's. So tomorrow when i finsh installing the subs i expect it to be louder then it was with 2 15';s so hopefully i should be happy until at least next summer ------------- goingcrazyonsound

Is that JBL 1200.1 amplifier the same amp that you used on the two 15" setup? If it is then it won't be louder at all... If you upgraded the amplifier, then read this: This was already posted in a thread a little while ago by the way. In order to increase db you must double your wattage. That's only for a 3 db increase. So if two times the wattage you have yields +3db, then one and a half times the wattage would only be a +1.5db increase. Lets say you were running 400 watts to each of the two 15's before. To get another 400 watts to that other sub would cost atleast another $150 or possibly more. (don't know what you paid) In this example, that would mean you would pay $150 for a 1.5db gain, or $10 for every tenth of a decibel! If you paid more than 150 to get that extra 400 watts then the price for every tenth just got steeper. Louder? yes. Much louder? not really. On the other hand, if your in SPL comps then every tenth of a decibel counts.....
