Eclipse CD7000 headunit

Hi:

Does anyone have experience with the Eclipse CD7000 receiver?  Some of the knowledgeable folks from this forum have high praise for Eclipse products and I'm starting to see why.

I prefer a HU with understated elegance, like the Nakamichi CD-45z or CD-400, and think this Eclipse HU finally has it.

So what are your experiences with the CD7000 - quality, sound, reliability, etc.?

CDN retail on this cd player is $899.99, it has not been released to the Great White North yet, I do not think it is available in the US market either at this time. It will use the same internals as the previous generation of Eclipse head units, meaning it will be one lean, mean sound machine. Simple, clean and easy  use while delivering tonal response that other companies only dream about.

the cd5000 has 8v preouts. the rest of their lineup, except for their beginner radio, has 5v. Personally, unless your stereo sucks ass with noise, 5v is plenty. I had the option to buy my friends 8v deck and I passed because I didnt need it. Why do you think they got rid of their 16v balanced out? its not really necessary and no one bought the thing. You also have to becarefull since, last I checked, alot of companies dont have their amp inputs rated for the 8v yet. but standing right now, the cd7000 is 700 bucks and the cd5000 is 550. another personally is, ill pay the extra 150 bucks for the less voltage and the non-shhhty looking radio. face it, the old design was the best one, simple and easy to interface. when they came out with the new one, it just looked like crap with all the different colors all over it. then they cme out with the 7000 which looks a little more simple and has a real nob again.

Your theory is sound, but it doesn't actually work that way in practice.  My Eclipse CD8443 has 8v preouts, but to see that full 8v, I would almost have to play sine waves at full volume.

Also, the relationship between the volume and the output voltage is not linear.  The output voltage climbs VERY slowly when turning the volume nob from 0 to 60 and then ramps up like a mofo from 61 to 80.

The bottom line is that when listening to music at normal volume levels (which for me is between 55 and 60), I'm only sending 2v of output signal.   In fact, I have the gains on my Alpine amp set just above the 2v mark (moving towards the 1v mark) and both my ears and my mulitmeter tell me that this setting is correct.
