hey havent done many volkswagons, I have to do one tomorrow and the customer says the dealer told him there is a data wire that if you hook up it causes all sorts of problems. I have never heard that before can anybody clear this up for me.
thank you
There is a data wire that runs to the OEM radio. If you replace the OEM readio with an aftermarket radio and the dealer plugs in their scan tool (with the aftermarket radio installed) it can cause damage to the dealers equipment.

I've done a few and no problems with the databus modules that I've used for the door lock interface. Must be a dealer problem

There are two constant wires on the factory harness. Use the large thick one on the end of the power plug. DO NOT use the thin one on the other side of the plug. I believe the large thick one is red with a white stripe. Then go to your local Volkswagon dealer and show him you know about these cars, my local dealer refuses to service any cars with aftermarket radios unless they have been installed at my shop. Great advertising.

There is no such thing as free installation!
Do a search in this forum and you'll find a few posts by the knowledgable Gus. If you hook up the wire in the metra harness labelled power antenna, and your antenna is not poweRED / amplified, that wire is used for the databus and will cause problems if you hook it up.
