what is the electrical component inline on the ignition wire? it is protected with a black fuse cover.
i had one that failed and i guess i need to replace it. i want to know what it is, can i bypass it, if i do what could happen. also, i have a avicn1 that wouldnt work. i troubleshot it to the inline thing. i then bypassed it and the unit still doesnt work. it seems that im having the same problem with a deh9600mp i have too.

If tt's a DC-DC converter it is required for the head unit to work. No you cannot bypass it. If you think yours is blown, go to your local authorized dealer and they can order you a new wiring harness.

Support the12volt.comi've seen these things at radio shack. can't i simply buy the same one and replace it? also, i did bypass it for a short time, with it still not working. i believe it didnt work because i didnt hook up the brain.

Actually I think he's talking about the resistor on the power wire. It is designed to act as a cheap, non-replaceable fuse that prevents voltage spikes from going through. We see those things blow all the time in Pioneer head units. It's just a poor design. However if it still doesn't work when you bypassed it, then you have other problems as well. But replacing it with a higher power resistor with the same resistance should take care of the problem.
i replaced it with another, works fine. also, do you know whats inline on the yellow power wire. whats the stuff in the little black box? more resistors? are pioneers sensitive?
