my rockford fosgate p5002 keeps overheating... i have it hooked up to my car battery running a 4 gauge power cable and ground wire... when i play my subs, they play great for about 5-10 minutes then the amp gets burning hot and shuts down... is there anyway to fix that?
Just remember that all amplifiers have a specific current at which they can safely deliver to the speakers. The resistance of electricity in a circuit is measured in ohms. So if your speakers have a lower impedance than the amplifier is rated at, then this is a problem. The amplifier will deliver more current to the speakers than it is capable of, and will eventually either shut down or fry.
The way you wire the speakers to the amplifier is important also....
I just read the double post of this topic- You have 2 Kicker CVX 12's right? (just making sure) This speaker comes in a 2 and a 4 ohm model, which one do you have? Also, how do you have them wired to your amplifier?
You shouldn't stop at just changing the fuse. Look a little further into this situation before forgetting why the fuse went bad in the first place. Make sure things are ok to ensure that you have that amplifier as long as possible....
