93 Ford Explorer Stereo Wiring

       Alright I have had this 1993 Ford explorer for awhile and I decided to put in a new CD player. I have put system units in before so for the most part I knew what I was doing, so for the sake of saving money I just cut the wires and proceeded to look for a diagram. Two hours later I ran into an ensemble of problems that have been sized down greatly thanks to these forums, but still leave me with some issues.
     I haven’t looked but I’m sure that I have either one or more amp(s) in the right side panel of the Explorer because I have the second plug that others have asked about.
     On a side note, out of frustration I just started testing the speakers w/ the positive terminal on (total brainfart forgetting to use a battery) and I touched one of the CD players speaker wires to a wire that belonged to a random plug I found behind a closed vent on my dashboard and my car almost started. I am going to start another topic asking about that plug but if there is a quick answer to this I would love to have it.
     Finally getting to it, the wires that I have and the information I have been given is as follows….

Factory 8 Input Gray/Black Plug
This plug only had six wires in place
YELLOW /GREEN - Memory Power (const. 12V+)
Yellow/Black - Ignition (Switched 12V+)
Black - Ground Wire
Blue - Amplifier Remote
Blue/Red - Illumination
BLACK/ Green - This is killing me, what is this wire for?



Secondary Plug
Left Front (+) - Green
Left Front (-) - ORANGE / White
Right Front (+) - RED / White
Right Front (-) - Brown
Left Rear (+) - Light Blue/Black
Left Rear (-) - Yellow
Right Rear (+) - WHITE/ Purple
Right Rear (-) - Light Blue
Bare Wire – This is another problem, what is this exposed wire’s purpose?

I might as well give the info on that plug I found in my dash
BROWN / White
ORANGE / Blue
Blue/Red
Dark Blue
RED / Yellow
WHITE/ Blue
Black

Any information you can give me about the BLACK/ Green wire on the factory plug, the bare wire on the secondary plug, or the random plug in my dash would just make my day, thank you.

 this is what i have...your best bet would be to go to the amp with the speaker wires

I forgot to mention that it is a 4 door but the speaker wires i found in the secondary plug worked just fine, (thanks to wayland1985) but i just have to know what those other three things are. It's killing me, and I am trying to spend as little cash as possible to find out. I just hope there is someone here who can help. If not, I guess I will have to stop whining

Ford gives you 2 grounds on there stereos. The black is the radio ground and the BLACK/ green is a chassis ground. Never completely figured out why they do this , maybe engine noise issues. I always the BLACK/ green as the ground for my head units. Don't know about the other two.

first of all, do you have an antenna behind the radio? if it has an antenna behind the radio and the 2 plugs look like a standard long rectangle power plug and the other plug was right angled and has gray heat shrink on it then you have an amplified system. the amp is in the cargo area on the passenger side under the window. if you wouldn't have cut the plugs then you could have bought a 70-5514 (with bypass harness) or 70-5511 (without bypass harness) and just powered up the amplifier with the blue/white wire on the harness. now you will probably have to run wiring to the factory amp and bypass it the hard way. hope this helps and good luck.

Left Front Green + WHITE/ orange -

Right Front WHITE/ red + brown -

Left Rear blue/black + yellow -

Right Rear PURPLE / White + blue -
