I never thought of it this way but can you take a duel 4 ohm sub and run a 2 ch amp 1 ch to 1 voice coil and the other ch to the other voice coil?
Sorry if this is a dumb Q but I never thought about doing this. A friend wants me to find out.
If the signal from the amp is mono you can.
If the amp is bridgeable, and most are, what would be the purpose of connecting the coils individually to the two channels? As you have it stated, each channel will output into 4 ohms. Now, if you were to wire the two coils in series to make an 8 ohm load, then bridge that load across the channels...each channel will ouput into a 4 ohm load. Exactly the same power output.

yeah but you would get more out of the system if you used one coil and bridged that into the amplifier. as long as the amp is 2 ohm stable that will optimize the woofer and the amp especially if you are using an amp that is bigger than needed.

Huh?
If you only run one voice coil of a DVC subwoofer you must use no more than 1/2 its rated power, and the Q of the speaker will change so your enclosure may no longer be optimized. It is better to use both voice coils of a DVC woofer.
