Are they really sat ready out of the box or do you have to buy a tuner still? i understand u need a subscription to xm or sirius.

Most headunits require a tuner and ant. However some do have it built in alpine makes one. Yes you do need a subscription for each.

JVC Tuners that say SAT Ready will require either the SIR-JVC1 Sirius tuner or the XMD-1000 and XMD-JVC100 XM Pieces.

You still need a subscription, I don't thing Sat Radio will be free ever.
