i am trying to install an amp with subs in a 2001 audi a6. I have the line level converters so I am lookin for a place to tap the speaker wires. It has the bose speakers in the car. Is there an amp somewhere i can easly tap off of? I really dont want to take out the radio. Does someone have a diagram with the colors of the speaker wires? I think i could easily tap off the wires in the kick panels if i knew the color

hmmm. Thanks for the diagram. I have a question, Can I basically tap the speaker wire wherever I can find it, or does it have to be at the amp? The rear deck is covered by a large metal plate, which i really dont feel like taking down to do this. Are the speaker wires accessible behind the head unit or can I possible tap the wires at the kick panel where the speaker wires go into the door boot?

No, you don't have to tap the wires at the speakers. You can connect your LOC's anywhere between the amp and the speakers- you'll just have to test to make sure they are indeed for the speakers and not something else. Otherwise, if you know the factory amp's inputs, you can try running that signal directly into your amp by soldering on some RCA's.

cool. I just wanted to make sure u can tap the wires anywhere. I was just thinkin it would be probably easiest to access the speaker wires right in each kick panel, if I can find the colors. Is there an optimal place to tap the wires for the converter? I am using this to hook up an amp for subs, so i want bass... Should I tap off the factory sub speaker wire? If so, how would I do that considering its only one set of + - and the converter has two sets for two channels.

I found the factory amp. Should I tap the rear speaker wires or the front speaker wires? Also, is a standard line out converter even going to work?> Are the speaker wires crossed over so I wont even get the right signal? What hardware do I need to get this thing to work.

If you're using an LOC, and have a factory sub, you must tap those wires to ensure you get the proper frequencies. Just connect both the left and right channels together (left positive and right positive to the same wire, left negative and right negative to the same wire).

Where is the speaker wire on the subwoofer? I dont really remember seeing a wire coming off the subwoofer. And there is only 4 sets of speaker wires coming out of the amp as far as i saw on the one side. And a few others. Possibly on the far side is where the sub connects? Im sure the sub unbolts somehow, but i dont have the car with me so i dont know

I can't tell you where because I've never done one of those. If it's like some other German cars, though, the wires may be enclosed in a vinyl protective sleeve, so it may not be very noticable. If you find it doesn't have a factory sub, I'd tap the wires going to the largest drivers in the system.

I have one last question. I unplugged the subwoofer wiring harness from the amp and tested which pair of wires is for which sub. The subwoofer is like two speakers in an enclosure, so on the harness there is two sets of speaker wire. When I put a 9 volt to each pair one speaker moves and pops at a time, depending on which speaker wire pair i test. The weird thing is though when I plug the harness back into the amp, no matter which set of speaker wire i touch with the 9volt battery on the subwoofer harness, both speakers in the enclosure move and pop. How come when the harness is unplugged only one moves at a time? Should i tap each set for the LOC or just pick one set and put the pos and neg of both channels to one subwire?

i dont recommend you start popping 9V into the wiring with it in circuit.... you can easily blow the output stage of the amp..... also, i usually use a 1.5 Volt battery for speaker testing.... which works fine.... i'd be leary of driving 9 volts DC directly to a voice coil... likely this a DVC sub and the VC's are commoned inside the amp... just tap your LOC on either set of wires.... ------------- Kevin Gerry

Will it work with the loc being connected to both sets of wiring? I already have the panel back on with the loc connected to each set of wires.. WHITE/ white-black connected to one set, and gray/gray-black to another set.

Kevin is right- don't "pop" speakers while they're still connected. Yes, if there's two sets of wires for the subs, tap both of them.
