I have a customer looking to upgrade his factory stereo in his 1998 lexus LS400, however....it's been a good 5 years since I've done any audio systems in these vehicles, so i have a few questions to anyone with experience working on these vehicles.
They are looking to get a new eclipse double din nav. unit and purchase a new sub with a new amp to run the sub.
1) what size factory sub is in the rear deck, 8" or 10"
2) is the entire system amplified, or just the sub?
3) if the entire speaker system is amp'd, can you interface a low-level signal from a new source unit to retain the factory amp running the interior speakers?
4) where is the factory amp located? trunk or interior?
5) what size are the factory interior speakers?
Thanks in advance for anyones help!
1) 8" at least up here they are
2) yep, entire system goes thru the amp, as does the CD changer
3) yes you can
4) in the rear of the center console
5) 6.5"'s
this is all from memory of the last one i did which is a few months back now, but i think i remember it correctly.....

what do you have to do in order to run low-level to the factory amp? going to be using an eclipse head unit with pre-outs. does metra make any type of harness, or do you have to solder rca plugs into the factory signal wires?
thanks again!
either way would work...if Metra (et al) has one it should be the same as the Toyota premium sound integration harness... otherwise cutting and solder your own RCA's should work as well..... i installed a 5 channel Directed amp in that one so it wasnt an issue for me.....
