I'm planning on wiring some cables through some seats and was wondering if anyone has done this? I'm just concerned about the power cable thats going to be running to my amp, It's a 4 gauge X 4 (4 amps) does anyone know if the cables can get hot enough to start heating the materials inside the seats?

As long as you use the proper sized wire for your application (check the charts on the left of this screen under car audio/power and ground), and the wire will not run along any sharp areas or pinch points, you will be fine.

You could always use some very small wire loom.
That might help out.

...and to add to what geepherder said, fusing is the key.  The fuse, if matched to the capability of the wire (see same chart as above), will burn out before the wire could get hot enough to cause problems.  Each main power wire is fused close to the battery.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.
