I'm trying to install an FM modulator (audiovox fmm100a) on a 05 chevy malibu LS "new style" sedan. Looking at the wiring schematic from the service manual it looks like there is an antenna amplifier. Does anyone know where the antenna amplifier is located? i tried hooking up the modulator directly to the back of the radio but the signal was too low. i'm assuming that i need to connect the modulator between the antenna and the antenna amplifier. any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.

If the antenna is indeed amplified, then it would already be amplified by the time it got to the radio, so that's where you should put the modulator.  Depending on the source you're using to feed signal into the modulator, there's sometimes an output adjustment.  Some satellite radio recievers are like this.  If you're trying to adapt a headphone jack output on something, there's a strong possibility the source signal is too weak, and will have to be boosted before introduction to the modulator.

all you need is a 40-GM10 & a 40-GM20.... grab the antenna right at the back of the radio and off you go.....
