So, the new JL Audio chrome amps (in specific the 450/4) are all backordered for 8 weeks minimum. My customer wants chrome ideally, (say Audiobahn and I'll lump ya!), Xtant is a nogo as well as we blew up 4 of them due to excessive amounts of bass from two 12's. This system will have Focal quad coil 18's. So, what other options do we have available? I'm open to taking apart the amps and chrome plating them if we cannot find something.....

I'm in pretty good with Hal Moulton, VP of sales down at JL. Do you want me to try to call in a favor and see if I can find some? What's your time frame?

Time frame, yesterday. Now I am not trying to circumvent my Canadian distributor in any way. I intend to purchase these amplifiers, pending the availability, from my Canadian distributor. So I need to know where the delay is, at JL's end or at my distributors end. To me it sounds like a issue at the JL end. If I cannot get these amps here in the next week, I need to go with something entirely different.

What about an Orion amp?I believe all of their amps last year were chrome. I'm sure you can still find lots of them though. This Orion 8004 seems comparable to the 450/4 with power rating, atleast.

I love chrome.   posted_image

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

Some of the older soundstreams are chrome. Some of the new ones also. But the older 10.0 would be awsome if you can find them.

Just install a good Eclipse amp but wrap it in aluminum foil.

Ok, whoever said Alphatoaster gets a smack. I have thought about going to the Eclipse amps and having them chrome plated, yet my distributor is not getting back to me on availability (see my other thread). It is looking like 3 Zapco competition amps at this time, built custom at the factory. Should be about 2-3weeks until we see them. On the other hand we did receive the first of the Focal quad coil 18's today. We had 3 customers slip coming in the door because of all the drool on the floor.

The amps were mounted on a 45 degree angle. A x604 and a x1001. The x1001 was running two Eclipse aluminum 12's in a sealed box about a foot away. The shockwave of the subs rattled the main caps right off the circuit board. PS, Jeff, get out here dooder. Need help badly.

My friend and part timer here at the store got the rescue call for that ferry sinking. They scrambled 4 Cormorants and Buffalo's from the CFB Comox here and headed out immediately thinking it was a worst case scenario. That ferry in the summer is usually 100% packed, instead of the 95% empty that it was. The potential for disaster there was huge. By the time they arrived, all the Sartechs were geared to go in parachutes and swimming gear, turns out that they were not needed as the local Indian Band had pretty much done the job by then. Absolutely bloody amazing at how this unfolded. Being so close to this we hear way more than the rest of the population does. I guess this means that the new ferries are going to be coming sooner rather than later now, I think they need a full AV system....

I'm off today but I need to go into town to finalize the sale of my 280SL. I'll make some calls and see what I can do. Rob, I'll PM you when I find out. How many 450/4s do you need?

Very cool!  My relatives in the Pacific Northwest know about that water, having lived on it for centuries.  Do you have a link to the story as I'd like to read more about this.

Go to this site and start searching from there. This ferry terminal is about a 3 hour drive from me. Anyone going up island from me, passes my store. That local indian band was paramount in saving lives. Hats off to all of them. From waking up at 12:30 am when they heard the mayday call, every single one of them got out of bed and started to get things ready for people to arrive. Unbloody beleivable. Nothing but respect for all of them.

450/4 in chrome, looking for 3 of them. I'm calling Zapco today to see if they will polish the aluminum heatsinks on three amps right away. If they will, chances are that is where the job is headed. Time will tell I guess. We had a customer get knocked unconscious here yesterday, he saw the sub, slipped on the drool on the floor as we had not mopped it up yet, and knocked his head on the basket of the sub. When he came to he passed out again. MAN O MAN are they ever nice. I expected them to be much heavier and deeper than they are. They actually look small by comparision to the Eclipse Titanium drivers. Wierd. posted_image

Not trying to get this off track here, but whats wrong with alphasonik.  I'm pretty new to car audio, but my setup works just fine and I've had my amp for two years.  yeah they got some stupid features, but they look and sound nice for the price.

So, anyone want a pic of the big nasty Focal's yet.....

Nothing wrong with Alphatoaster if they are doing the job for you. They are built to do a specific job at a specific price range. The only way a company gets to that price range is to limit the engineering or quality of components used in the construction of the piece. As long as it is doing the job for you and you are happy that is great, it was a good buy for you. In the task that I have for my customer, the build quality of the Alphatoaster amplifiers are not on the same level as Zapco or JL Audio amps would be. We need amplifiers that have capabilities beyond what the Alphatoaster was designed to give. In this case his bill is hovering around $45K right now. Most certainly a budget type amplifier is not going to be used in this application as it would be the weak link in the system.
