First off, it is not a OnStar bypass, it is an OnStar retention interface. The factory radio sends two channels of audio into the amp. The fading was done over the Class II bus. So if you pull the factory radio, then you cannot fade.

jstruckman is correct the Premium Bose amp found in Hummers, Escalades, and Denali's only use two channel inputs, but the lower Bose amps will still fade front to rear like the ones in the Tahoes, Silverados, Yukons, Suburbans.
