Hey, my girlfriend has a 2000 Cavalier and im putting a head unit in it. The question i have is the ding that happens when you open the door or leave your lights on or something comes out of the speakers instead of the dash. I heard someone (i think at best buy) say you need to have a special part to make this still happen (I think they were full of doodie becuase they wanted to install it) But i was just seeing if there is anything i need to make the door ding still work..lol, sorry, its a hard question to explain.. Door ding is the best i can come up with.. Any help would be greatly appreciated..

they are not full of doodie as you say.   Any 2000 or newer GM vehicles do require modules and special wiring harnesses.   I dont think this vehicle need the radio relocated like on some other vehicles, but if you wish to retain the door ding then yes you will need a module with the correct harness.
I am unsure of the module #'s off hand but hopefully someone will jump in here and give you the part #s

 ok I found my books
 the part #'s are

 Metra GMRC-01
 or

 Peripheral GMCO

either one will cost $60-$100 depending on where you go to purchase one.   This will make it so you do not have to re-locate the factory head unit(you have to without it) and will retain the chime and airbag controls, so you dont get an airbag light on all the time

Or the scosche one is DCGM09. And it runs 120 at best buy. It also lets you retain the rap.

Not all Chevy's have the Class II Databus radio. If the door chime reminder sounds from under the dash, it' snot a class II and doesn't require the relocation harness or the door chime module.
