whats up guys, I need some input here please... this is my situation I have a 12w7 and I also have 2 ppi amps 1 is a 21400.2 and the other is a 6800.2.
I wanted to hook up the 21400.2 to my 12w7 but I have asked a couple shops and they either said its impossible or not recommended. Something have to do with the Ohms. the sub is a 3ohm and they are telling me that the amp is going to be way too much power.
What do you guys think about this set up, is it do-able? When I was on vacation in cali. I stopped in at a Tweeter, and also got their opinion, they told me that they have a lot of customers running this same setup. Its just that 2 have told me no and 1 said yes. This is the first time I am installing my own sound system, that is why I am kind of afraid.
I was also thinking of maybe selling the 21400.2 and buying a JL 1000/1, but I do not want to sell my 6800.2, would it be alright to run 2 different brand amps? or would that be wacky?

do you know the specs on your amps you have now? Is either one 1 ohm stable? you would need a one ohm stable amp to power this sub...both coils would yeild 1.5 ohm.....or you could read the post about only hooking up one voice coil. I have not tried it yet but it looks like alot of people have gotten good results

the 12w7 is a single voice coil 3 ohm sub, and the specs on the amp are
350 WRMS x 2 @ 4ohm per channel
700 WRMS x 2 @ 2ohm per channel
1400 WRMS x 1 @ 4ohm bridged

It looks like you have an amp that is not stable under 4 ohms when bridged, since the woofer is a 3 ohm load the amp would most likely shut down. Don't do it.

I think you'd be okay just hooking each VC up to a seperate channel and that'd give you pretty close to the right amount of power. Or you could bridge the amp and hook it up for a 6 ohm load.
