I have a 2001 Chrysler Town and Country.  The radio keeps shutting off.  It does not matter whether a CD is playing or a cassette is playing or just the AM/FM radio is on, it keeps shuttin off.  It has been doing this for the last 6 months and it has got progressively worse.  It is a stock radio and i do not know what is going on.  Does anyone have any ideas on what could be happening? I dont want to have to spend $1000 to replace the factory system.

Have you modified the system at all?  If not, then something is defective, either the head unit, a speaker, a connection, or the power supply.

never upgraded anything.  Everything is factory.  It will play then shut off quickly then play again.  This occurs repeatedly.  It happens maybe 20 times during a 4 minute song.   You think it is internal more than faulty wiring?

the battery has been replaced and the alternator is in good working condition. SO i don't think its the power supply.

Could be a shorted speaker or speaker wire.  Try disconnecting them all, then plug them back in one at a time and see if one causes the problem.  But yes, it could be simply a bad head unit.
