are high output alternators in any way bad or hard on a car ?

I believe they take a little horsepower away from the engine.

Nothing to be concerned about in my opinion... because if you need a high output alternator (assuming for a sound system), you cant be all about horsepower and speed, because you have atleast 100 pounds of subs and amps in your car slowing it down (minorly) probably.

u can put on a smaller pulley to account for the extra strain a larger alt will put on ur engine. smaller pulley speeds up the rotation of the alt in return not robbing ur engine of horse power.

Just to clarify- a smaller crank pulley will slow everything else down, including the alternator, but that would defeat the purpose.

I understand- I was correcting you.  A smaller alternator pulley would use more power from the engine to run, not less (gear ratios, my friend).  If you look up an underdrive pulley system for your car, you'll notice the pulleys are actually bigger, not smaller.  This way they spin less and use less engine power to run.
