I'm trying to decide on two of the new 12 inch alpine type r or 2 15 inch ma audio 150qs I think what it is called.  Would the 15 inch be louder and have higher spl then the 12 inch since there are more cone area or what.  I'm asking couse I have no experence with these subs or the brands.  I'm gone build a vented box to there specs and I'm not worried about the size of the box.

You will get enough experience with these subs if you visit some of your local car audio shops and have a listen to the two brands.  While 15" subs will, if all else is equal, provide more sound with the same amount of power due to the larger cone area and possibly higher efficiency, they may not sound the way you want them to.  You will not know unless you listen for yourself.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

Just my 0.02, but IMO, the Type R's are much higher quality. They can get very loud and can sound very good if you do things properly.

Are you talking about a JL Audio 12w7?  If you are, then that is one massive jump.  Definitely the 12w7.

That's my opinion. Take it, leave it, or correct me.

My question to you is what you want to do ? SPL or SQ ? Also, what are you planning to power them with as far as an amplifier ? If you decide on either a Type R or 12W7 your gonna need some serious power to move them as well as planning ahead and making sure that you get the proper ohms subs with the proper amplifier.

You do know that Type R's are $200 a piece and w7's are about $750 a piece, right?
Those subs are on very different levels. A w7 would definitely out perform a Type R.

Well I missed my chance cause of my friend so now it is gone be the type r or maybe something else, but I'm going for spl.

Well the Type R's aren't really an SPL sub. They do get pretty loud though. I saw someone down at a local competition hit 138 with a single 12" Type R in a medium sized vented enclosure. If you gave us a budget, your enclosure size limitations, and tell us if you already have an amp or if you have a budget for a new one, we could give you some recommendations.
Or you could take a trip down to your local car audio shop and check out their selection and talk to the guys there about what you want.

Well if I get them then the vented box I build will be 6 ft^3 after the two drivers and port displacement, so the subs will see 3 ft^3 each when they are in the box with the port being 13.5 hight and 5.25 wide tuned to 40 Hz.  I'm hoping to find something else before I end up with these sence you say they really aint meant for spl.  I got 4 channel Rockford Fosqate p4004 right now but I'm gonna put a p4002 to them to I get another amp.

I would reccomend the Kicker l7's if you are going for SPL....they get loud, real loud.    but a P4002 would not be close to enough power to run those subs.

Unless you could double the amount you were looking to spend on an amp for your subs it would not be worth goin with the L7's

Yeah I'm saying I'm going to get a new amp but that be like a month or something.  You don't think the p4002 be enough cause it put out 800 rms bridge I think.

The p4002 puts out 400 watts bridged. An L7 is a good suggestion. But you'll have to find 700-800 watts to run it.
