top of the range Headunit whines!

Hello,

I own a Nissan Pulsar GTIR 1993 (aka Nissan Sunny).

I recently installed a top of the range Kenwood head unit to the car using the ISO connector and also a JBL 6 channel amplifier. together with front compotents, rear 6x9 and one 1000w peak subwoofer. all items EXCEPT the head unit was purchased as a jbl set and then head unit was purchased seperately.

I installed as so

each speaker wire was laid down each side of the car. the power lead and remot lead was installed down the centre of the car on one side of the centre console and gear sift stick and the phono leads were laid on the other side of the centre console ad gear shift stick, at least 1.5 feet apart. head unit at front and amplifier at rear in boot

i also used a ISO adaptor to install the head unit and i also used the -ve earth lead provided to earth the unit.

MY PROBLEM...there is a high pitch wine which i can hear from the speakers. I thought it might be the alternator but i hear the same whine even when i am not running the car, i.e stright from the battery????

The headunti is a top of the range latest model and i dont think i shoud have this kinda problem?

why am i gettigt this whine at any volume level ? i belive i have installed all correctly

Sounds like a ground loop. Probably a bad ground on your amplifier, or a high ground return resistance. Also try grounding the HU directly to the chassis instead of using the factory ground wire. Read the Ground sticky and the Big 3 upgrade sticky.

ground loops rarely show up when the vehicle isnt running.... have you tried to adjust your gain down on the amp? at try this and see if the noise goes away.....

I would say check the RCA's, sometimes new ones can be bad and create additional noise.

That is where I would start as well. If this noise is present with the engine off, it sounds like a signal issue. This could be a rca cable grounding out or pinched, a bad signal input on the amp or a bad signal output from the cd player. Start by turning all the gains down. Take the head unit out of the dashboard and run temporary rca's over the top of the seats to the amp. Retest the system. If you can, get a friends cd player and use it to test as well.

gentlemen thanks for the hints and clues... i will try the ideas as your have mention.

PS the cables i have used are the AUTOLEADS cables which i have used on previous installations without this problem.

The whine is at such i high frequency that at teh end of my car journy i get a booody head ached :(

i will look at it this weekend and let you all know hwat i find.
