im installing an oem radio in a 2002 suburban. I bought a wiring harness, but its not working correctly.  The radio turns on, but there is no sound from the speakers.  I hooked a speaker directly up to the back of the radio and it worked.  I also used a 9v battery to "pop" the speakers but it only worked when the factory harness was plugged into the back of the factory radio.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your truck may have an amp. If there is a second plug which plugs into the factory radio and it has a pink wire in it, this wire needs to be powered when the radio is on to turn on the amp.

Check the option code sticker in your glove box. If a YE9 to Y91 optio is listed then you have an amp. Post your results as well as what the codes that begin with a U are. The pink wire is in a 9 pin plug that goes to the remote cassette or CD unit. The pink branches off and triggers the factory amp in the rear to come on. If you have rear seat audio controls, then you have an amp too.

Your truck has an amp. Can you find the pink wire to use as a amp trigger. The purple wire you mentioned is the amp gain control wire and goes in position 11 of the gray factory plug right at the end of it.
