I installed the Avic-Z1 in my VW Golf tonight. All and all it went pretty smooth, until I was finishing up the install and realized that the radio didnt come with a cage. I figured it had to be a mistake so I looked in the install booklet and the only hardware provided for mounting is some tiny screws. It looks like you are supposed to attach the radio to an existing cage or the car itself. I cant get to the sides of the radio, even with all of the trim removed.
Any suggestions on what to do? I am going to call pioneer as soon as I get a chance.
Dustin

Did you remove one when you took out your factory radio?

No, the factory radio slid in and locked in place with 4 spring clips. The clips on the factory radio don't come off at all either. Its a little smaller than the factory opening too.

Not a lot of Double-DIN units come with cages, you'll have to use some backstrap or something similar to make mounting brackets.

I talked to someone at Pioneer this morning, he was just as confused as I was about the mounting situation with the z1. He said that he installed the unit in his prelude and had the same exact problem and he expects to get lots of calls and complaints about this.
His solution was to use the cage and brackets from a D1. I found one for sale on ebay so I will try install that when it shows up.

pioneer sells a install kit for it , its another just a lame excuse to charge 15 bucks for a cage some brackets and screws. d-1 and d-2 brackets and cage fit, but the brackets didnt clear when I was installing it in a soundboard but I think the hole around the cage was probally just a little tight...

I bought the d1 cage off of ebay, and the d2 fascia from pioneer. I didnt see an install kit for it on the pioneer parts site.
