Comments, my new system

I have just hooked up my new sub and head unit system and tested it out at a fairly reasonable volume and thanks to everyone here works as good as expected. The box took some final finessing to get to fit with the back seat up and my steel amp rack had to be torched back into shape and re-bent to fit behind the hatch. I have not finished the box or rack yet as it will be coming out in a couple of weeks for our vacation. I have wired everything as recommended by the various guides and input on this site but still have a couple of questions.

My amp again is a Volfenhag zx-8400 with a posted 2000w (600w rms bridged) supply and the subs are two 12 inch Volfenhag 1000w (500w rms). I have bridged the subs and run the in series (I think). I tested the resistance on the subs and its 3.8 ohms (they are 4 ohm DVC subs) is this decent? Also, I have adjusted the gain to about halfway and the bass boost on the amp itself to about half. It has a remote bass boost controller but I can turn it all the way up or all the way down and it doesnt seem to make a difference, does this have something to do with the bass boost setting on the amp? Does it need to be turned all the way up to control it from the remote?

The head unit is a 2006 sony cdx-f605x specialty series piece which sounds awsome and also has a subwoofer bass control in the menu. On the diagram for the H/U the rca's with the leads out the back are subwoofer leads but it doesnt show an amp in the diagram just a sub, does the subwoofer bass control on the H/U control this?

The audio out on the back of the H/U is what I have run to my amp.

3.8 ohms DCR (dc resistance) per voice coil is fine.  Do a search in this forum (upper right of this screen) on setting gain and bass boost.  Do you have a link to your bass control knob?  Also, how is this hooked up?

It's just a simplified diagram.  Yes, the sub bass controls in the head unit will control these outputs.

The bass boost control on the amp itself is the same control for the gain and other filters, a recessed rotary control. The remote bass control has a cat5 or similar cable run from the amp to under my dash, the LED on the remote is lit when the ignition is turned to "acc" or "on" so I know its getting power but like I said, it doesnt seem to do anything.

So the leads to the sub as per the diagram - the subwoofer bass control on the H/U then uses its internal amp to power the sub and the "audio out" connections are 'pre-amp' then? So I do have it hooked up correctly.

I have read quite a bit about setting the gain, I will have to refine it a little better at some point but I cant have the system full blast where I live - guess I could take it out somewhere else.

The whole idea of this setup was to conceal it unless necessary like a car show or something. I have a sponsorship and would like to take it to car shows this spring/summer but dont need someone ripping off a huge system thats displayed right out in the open. My wifes car has been broken into 7 times in the past two years - i dont need that.

I took me forever to find my posts but I would like to add a couple pics - my net connection was hooped so I hope some of you are still following this thread.

My new sony H/U less trim ring, add in later post. I have built a lexan filler which will be lit by LED from the back of the deck coming on with the switched power supply.

The bass remote, after hours of running wires through the carpet, dash, seats etc etc I find out its defective. It does have a kickass blue LED on it......

This sort of shows the amp rack, a little dark, I migh have to take a better photo, the other photo I have of the rack i cant make small enough to post.

Again, the amp rack are two bent pieces of steel fixed to the top and bottom of the box, right now they are just screwed in but I will have brushed or polished aluminum on the top and the box will be carpeted or painted a blue. Its so tight between the wheel tubs that I dont think I can get carpet in there.

This is just a photo of the Neon switch in the console, it lights up the neons under the dash and seats.
