Subject: Amplifer setup?

I have an 89 cefiro and and have just got an amp that is 1800w max 4/3/2 channel. head unit has two sets of rca's coming out of it marked front and back. Do I have to hookup both sets to my amp or only the rear connections My amp has incoming and outgoing for the rear and incoming for the front. I only intend on using this amp for one monster sub. The advertisment with my amp says that if I run it at 2 Ohm I can get 3600 W max out of it. Does that sound right. At the moment I am only getting one sub and plan on using my amp as two channels and running one channel to each side of my dvc sub. this will only have it running 4 Ohm. Or I can have one channel running both sides of the sub at 2 Ohm with an empty channel. Any advise on this would be appriciated

Wouldn't it make sense to tell us what amp and sub you're going to use if you want advice on them?

Ahh... I was going to say I hadn't heard of either of those. But then I realized you were in New Zealand...

Could you give me some of the specs of both pieces?
Disregard the MAX ratings on both as they're not really important. What's the RMS rating of the sub?
And what are the specs of the amp? (RMS ratings)

the amp is 65w x 4 @ 4 Ohm, 125w x 4 @ 2 Ohm, 180 x 2 + 400 x 1 @ 4 Ohm 500w x 2 @ 4 Ohm it doesn't say what it is for 2 channels at 2 Ohm which is what i want out of it, It gives me specs for 2 Ohms so am I to assume that it is stable there. The Sub is 750 rms and it says that is per each voice coil so I think that is 1500 rms total, or is it still 750? anyway I only want to run the 500w per channel to the one sub. I bought both online and have included links to their websites so if there is anything there that may be helpful.

Link to amp page is https://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=51553361

Link to sub page is https://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=52777700

p.s.  Noone here has heard of that brand of amp either I think it is chinese

On that link you gave me, atleast, it says the total RMS is 750. So I'll go with that. Do you know if it's a 4 ohm dvc or a 2 ohm dvc?
On that amp, you said "180 x 2 + 400 x 1 @ 4 Ohm 500w x 2 @ 4 Ohm" What do you mean by that?
I'm assuming it's 180 x 2 @ 4 ohm since it's 65 x 4 @ 4ohm. But what's the 400 and 500 stuff about? It is just a 4 channel amp, correct?

im not sure bout the sub ill find out its still in the post, 180w x2 + 400w is for the 3 channel setup bridging one channel, 500w x 2 is for 2 channel bridged setup, the thing i dont get is it says 65w x4 @ 4 Ohm rms and massive power gain to 2 channels 500w x2 @ 4Ohm rms. Seems a bit odd

Stevedart - It says the amp puts out 125 x 4 @ 2 ohms... How would that turn into 500 x 2 @ 4 ohms?

You're right.  Once I edited it to add "look at the 2 ohms rating", I realized they made a typo.  Then I quickly deleted it.  It should read "250 watts X 2 at 4 ohms" for the dual bridged rating.  Damn these all-over-the-place electronics manufacturers anymore!  Makes you not believe a word you read on the box, in the manual or on the amp!

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

Ha! I posted that, the page reloaded, and your post had disappeared. For a second, I felt like an idiot - I thought I had read your response in a different thread, and replied to it in the wrong one. Heh heh...

Alright, so it looks like if your sub is a DVC 4 ohm model, you'll want to bridge the front & rear channels for the 180 x 2 @ 4 ohm, and if you've got the DVC 2 ohm model, you'll want to just hook up a single channel to each voice coil for the 125 x 4 @ 2 ohm and have two channels left over.

so if it is 250w x2 at 4 Ohm would it be 500 x2 @ 2 Ohm

* RATED OUTPUT POWER:
* * 4 Ch x 65W @4ohm
* 4 Ch x 125w @2ohm
* * 2 Ch x180W + 1 Ch x 400W @4ohm
* 2 Ch x 500W at 4ohm

First flaw, if the amps power in line 1 is rated at 4 x 65w @ 4 ohm, then how on earth on line 3 an it also be 2 x 180w and 1 x 400w @ 4ohm? posted_image

No offence intended here but these "specs" leave alot to be desired. This is a flea market type amp that is sold to  people who do not know enough about car audio. This amplifier will not be stable to 2 ohm in any bridged mode. It will be stable in 2 ohm in stereo mode only. So here is my take on the power ratings.

4 x 65w @4 ohm

4 x 125w @ 2 ohm

2 x 65w w and 1 x 250w @ 4 ohm

2 x 250w @ 4 ohm

This amplifier will not be able to make any more power than the 250w per bridged pair of channels no matter which way you look at it and hope and prey for more. It is by far from a proper match to the sub. Your sub is rated for 750w rms in total, this will be split between the two voice coils evenly. If it is a dual 4 ohm sub which I would assume it is, bridge the amp into two channels and run each voice coil off of one of the bridged channels.  This should get you going alright with what you have.

Oooo... Platinum Nominee, eh?
...BTW bryzza, not that it much difference, but in my last post, I meant to say 250 x 2 @ 4ohm - not 180 x 2 @ 4 ohm. That website was getting me all confused...
