help. hey peeps..hey I recently purchased a 12" JL Audio Sub in a JL Ported Box with a Sony 450watt amp. I am wanting to install it into my 2005 Chevy Silverado QuadCab 2WheelDrive. But I still have the factory head unit (stereo/tape/cdplayer) in it. But I called my friend down at California Customs (Truck accessories shop) and they told me what I needed and I went and bought what they told me that I needed. But heres the thing...how the heck do I install the amp to my factory head unit? I have the RCA converter; PowerWire (with inline fuse); Ground wire; Speaker wire (for usage from sub to amp); and a Blue wire (I have no idea what the blue wire is for).
My question is...is should I pay them the $180.00 to install the amp/sub? Or should I attempt this myself?
I could probably do it if I could find some schematics for my headunit for the wires. But no luck so far.
Any help is appreciated.
Later ------------- MikeyArk

Hey, i just finished my first install in my explorer today. I was just like you two days ago, haha. The blue wire is the remote turn on, so that the amp doesn't stay on while your truck is off. You can hook that wire up to the ACC in the fuse box or on the back of your head unit. Have you pulled your head unit out yet? When I pulled mine out the wires were labled witht there function (amp turn on, rear left speaker, front right speaker, ect.). Its pretty easy to install, i'd keep the $180.

If they're not labelled like ajrod said, I bet they're in the manual for your truck.
Hey ajrod, what year is your Explorer? I just finished my first install in my Explorer today too, haha. I learned a ton about car audio in the process. Mine's a 94 Eddie Bauer. I didn't use the factory HU though.

My explorer is a 94. Not the Eddie Bauer edition though. I have everything hooked up and working but i dont get my subwoofer (mofo-15) until tuesday. Its being shipped. I tested the setup with the subwoofer from my surround sound system in my living room. Its amazing what a sub can add to the mix. Did you make a custom enclosure or what kinda did you buy?

I made my box, I kept it simple with a 17.5" x 17.5" x 13" box. I've got a Pioneer TSW300R 12 in it, and even though its not a really high wattage, it pounds pretty good in my truck. That 15 should sound real nice in your Explorer.
