I have a 92 plymouth laser and a crossfire 70 watt amp, and 2 10" rockfords(don't know the wattage on them), but recently my computer went out in my car, and the mechanic blamed it on the subs being hooked up, talked to a friend and they said the mechanic was possibly right, and a cap would prevent that from happening, but I have read a post on here that caps are junk....what should I do??

Don't get a cap. I don't know or would understand why subs being hooked up in a car would fry the car computer?

You probably won't need a cap.  Upgrade the Big 3 and you should be fine.

That's my opinion. Take it, leave it, or correct me.

A cap is a waste of money.

Mechanics can always tell you what fried the computer but never how.

The only way subs are gonna fry the computer in the car is if they shake the car so bad that the caps or some other surface mount component, shake and break off the board. This is what caused my last swift to die but that was with 4 12's and I used is for spl competitions.

I got a cap and it saved me alot of money, all my lights stay on perfect unlike before and my bass sounds alot better, Its easier to hook up a cap than do the "big three"

get one second hand from ebay, try it and if it is no good sell it on... p.s it is possible that the amps caused a malfunction, but only if it was at a very high volume, my abs light came on sometimes if i really pushed my system without the cap.
