Hi everyone,
lets just make it clear that im in an area that i know very little about - head unit instalation.
i have a Sony Xplod CDX-R3410 into a 1992 Holden Barina/ Suzuki Swift (Wiring Install) which i managed to install with the help of my friend down the road. Problems first arised when i drove him home at night. when i turned the lights on i heard a pop and the dashboard lights failed to come on and the head unit stopped playing. It blew the fuse (15A). the people around town have told me its because of a faulty ground wire. Should i wire ground/earth to the car chasis or into the ground/earth accessory wire (black)?
thanks,
Julian

It sounds to me like you've used a dimmer wire as ground (this is a common mistake).  Once you turned on the lights, the fuse blew.  I hope your dash lights still worked after replacing the fuse.  Yes, try connecting your headunit's ground wire directly to ground, and see if that doesn't fix the problem.

In the event you do have to hardwire, make sure you test your wires with a meter.  Remember that dimmer wires typically test as a ground when the lights are off, so be sure to test with the lights on/off.
