I Have a 98 mitsubishi eclipse (2 tweeter dash, 2 door, 2 side back (stock)+ a alpine type r sub).  I have noticed that the factory speakers in the door are not up to par with my music, as I play rap and other music that require some bass, and often the door speakers make some annoying distorted noise.  I believe this is due to the stock speaker lack of ability, and am interested in buying (coxial?) speakers to replace them.  Any suggestion as to where I would get the best bang for my buck? (small differences in price is okay, im just looking for what will satisfy me without completely draining me)

You are going to need more than new speakers here. You are asking the speakers to try and keep up with the power of an amplified sub system. You are going to need an amp on the front speakers as well, this will increase the volume level, bass response and of course save the speakers from damage due to trying to play a low bass note with too much amplitude. Find an amp that is rated at 50w x 2 rms and that is your starting point.

Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

Even before the sub was installed I noticed the rattle when the sound or bass was turned up, all I want is nice sound without having to fade or turn the bass(-) down in the speakers with my cda-9851 head unit.  An amp is definitely an option, but it doesnt seem completely a must.  Any suggestion as to speakers? 3 way versus 2 way? size? a perticular speaker?

Try deadening your doors.  This will help a lot I think.  Stick with a 2 way speaker too.  The best size is one that you can fit.  If you want to keep it stock, then whatever will fit in the doors of your Eclipse.

That's my opinion. Take it, leave it, or correct me.

I'm curious what makes you want to go from having components to putting in Coaxils?  You'll get far better results by upgrading to an entirely new component set and being that you already have stock tweeters the install should be a piece of cake.  Trying to install a set of coaxils in addition to your pre-existing tweeters won't sound right and you'd be amazed at the sound improvement with aftermarket tweets.  I recently put the Polk db5250 5.25 component set in my '04 Grand Am and have been really pleased with them.  I would have gone with the db6500 6.5s but I was going to have clearance and fit issues so I went with the 5.25s instead.  I'm not sure if you made the coaxil decision based on cost or what, but you'll definately be more happy with a component set, and you can find them for about the same price if you shop around.  As always, the best way to find out what best suits you is to go listen to them, and Crutchfield is a great resource for doing research, but obviously their prices are a bit high.  I purchased all of my audio equipment (deck, front and rear speakers and sub) from ebay.  I've never had a bad experiance and I buy all my equipment new, not used but at much lower prices.  The 5250s list for $179.00 before shipping on  Crutchfield and I got them for $112.00 with shipping brand new on ebay.  Whatever you decide to do, make sure your speakers are installed right.  You don't have to have them done professionally if you don't want, just make sure you take you time and it never hurts to put some kind of deadener on your doors or at least around the speaker opening.

well, the best would be if i could just replace the tweeters in the dash and use the component tweets, I assume this is possible? then i could possibly go with the db 6500

or even the 6750 or whatever

Right, that's what I was saying.  It sounded like you wanted to take out the stock woofer, leave the tweeter and just replace the woofer with a coaxil, that's what was confusing me.  Yeah, I would definately reccomend the 6500 from my experiance with the 5250s as long as you're sure you can fit the woofer in your door and if Crutchfield is to be believed then you can.  I'd still say you should try to find them at a retailer and listen to them first though.  I know Circuit City has Polk.  Both of those sets are available on ebay for around $125.00 shipped, just search Polk 6500 or 6750.

Hmm, well if you're seriously dead set against ebay then most of the online retailers are going to run about the same price for those Polk sets from what I can tell ($175-$200).  You may want to look around the local shops in your area to see if you can find a better deal.  You'll want to do that anyway so you can take a listen to the speakers before you get them.  Just out of curiousity, why don't you deal with ebay?  I agree that buying used is hit and miss, but there are a lot of very reliable sellers on ebay now adays and the amount of new products at seriously reduced prices are worth taking a look at.  Just my 2 cents.

It just strikes me as odd that the online dealers that I usually buy stuff from do not stock polk, yet ebay sellers do, Its more me wondering how they got the items and if they are truely new

Like I said, I can only speak from personal experiance, but I bought the Polk 5250s, a set of Alpine type S 6x9s and my Alpine type S sub all from ebay, all from different sellers, and my previous deck was from there as well.  All of them came in their boxes, brand new with all the paperwork and parts.  The only risk you run is that generally they're not certifed resellers and as such can not usually offer the factory warantee, but will generally compensate with their own.  Those sellers live and die by their feedback, so as long as you buy from a seller with good feedback who people have said is reliable then you should be set.  I personally won't buy from any seller with less than close to 1000 feedback.  If you're still hesitent, Cardomain.com, Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com, Shop.com, Circuitcity.com and Millionbuy.com all stock Polk.  I used Circuitcity.com with in store pickup for my sub box and saved $40, just by ordering online and I got my current HU (pioneer deh-p5800mp) at Cardomain.com.  Their shipping was a bit slow, but they had the best price.

And I'm not saying the Polks will be the perfect speaker for you, you'll stil want to go and listen to some other brands to compare and if you decide on something else, your purchasing options may be different.  If I were you I'd also look into Alpine and Infinity.

If anyone is still interested in an opinion on finding good new product online at extremely low prices I have had excellent business with    www.indoaudio.com they are a ebay seller based in Cali. I am from canada so I have to pay duty and taxes on all this stuff and they helped me out with all of that plus sold me items a) I cant buy in canada b) are only sold at specialty outlets c) at incredible prices.

My new H/U is a sony specialty series which retails here for almost 400 and I paid 130 for it. Two 12" subs for 80 bucks that I cant buy here as well as matching amp for 120 that I also cant get here.

I have even called their office and theyve remembered who I am...   I dont even get that at my local stop and shop...
