I have 2 JL Audio W3's 10 in. When I play a song with low bass notes the woofers make a poppping sound. I bought them in a box. I think the box is to big. It is a sealed box with like over 1.5cuft per chamber. Could this be why they pop. They are not blown. What could be causing this?

I dont think the w3's are a "bottomless" design. They could be bottoming out. This is a bad thing and will lead to voice coil damage. How much power are you sending to them. They are only rated for 300 watts rms. And also judging by the owners manual they should be in a box half that size which will cut the power handling down quite a bit. Probably to around 175 watts if you want it to still be able to handle lower frequencies. Put them in the .65-.75 cubes a piece.

fiberglass reminds me of peanut brittle... but fiberglass tastes better!

Actually a smaller enclosure increases the sub's power handling ability.  The popping, though, is probably due to the amp gain being turned too high.  Decrease the gain a little at a time until the popping stops.  Then research this forum (https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/search_form.asp?fid=2) for the subject "gain".  There are some good how-to's written on the proper procedure to use.

Almost any sub can withstand a box twice the size of the manufacturer's recommendation as long as we are talking about sealed.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.
