I just bought a 96 Grand Prix and im going to sound deaden the trunk before I put the system in. What is the best deal and easiest to install sound deadening out now? Im planning on doing the trunk lid, by the taillights, the sides of the trunk and under the rear deck. About how much sound deadening will I need to get? Some advice from someone who has deadened one of these cars before would be great.

Best deal doesn't equate to easiest install. But for the lowest output of money, Mcmaster-Carr has a polymeric adhesive-backed sheeting that is very good. Page 3302 https://www.mcmaster.com/ #9709T19 This is an asphalt-base damping sheet similar to original Dynamat. I've used it with success and found that a quick spray of 3M spray glue on the metal surface allows for best adhesion, as well as a thorough cleaning of the sheet metal with denatured alchohol first. l would guess for what you described that 3 sheets (36 sq ft) would do the job. Should come out to about $43 plus $12 to $15 shipping.
Measure each surface area in inches, multiply width X length and divide by 144 for square feet.

I would really rather not use the asphalt based stuff. But the cheapest I can find for butyl based is eDead v1SE and its on back order. Has anyone out there had problems with the asphalt based stuff? Specifically smelling bad or even falling off in hotter temperatures. If im going to go with the asphalt based stuff I might as well just go with some Peel & Seal from Home Depot right? I dont want to spend upwards of $100 just to soundeaden my trunk.
