hey ive got a question for you guys.....my car is a 1994 honda civic lx......my stock alternator pushes 65 amps and i have 2 12" pioneers and a 750 watt sony explode amp.....when my bass hits my lights dim....i was looking at this 130 amp alt and i was wondering if that is sufficient for my system. heres the amp: https:///.com/ebaymotors/91-95-Honda-Civic-High-Output-Alternator-130AMPS-WOW_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategory

if it is 130amp at idle it is more than enought.

what ive read on here, i think you need 10 amps for every 100 watts

Engine off watts is around 12 (@ 1 amp)
Engine running watts is around 14.4 (@ 1 amp)
Your house is 120 watts (@ 1 amp)
1A is one amp... the amps times the VOLTAGE is watts. So, you see, that is how I arrived at the numbers above. Those are also INPUT watts. A Class A/B amplifier will waste about 33% of it's INPUT power as heat, so 100 watts IN will give you 66 watts out.
Your 130A alternator will easily power a 1200 watt amplifier, WITH NO OTHER ACCESSORIES RUNNING. Lights, AC, fans... all will draw from this 135A pool, as well. The Sony Xplod amps are VERY optimistically rated, meaning THEIR 750 watts is more like a (insert respected manufacturers name here...) 500 watts, if that much. Using the math, I'd say that is a pretty good alternato match for your system. It will not leave much room for expansion, but it'll get you started...

like said above, its 75 amps at idle...that where you are going to experience the most problems, when you stop your car at a light.
A good 150 amp alt or anything in that range for any import will cost you $200 or more. If you are mechinally inclined you could do as we have done on all of our honda's, and put a chevy Small Block alt on them.

i just thought of this.....my car lights never dimmed when my alternator was running....it only dimmed when i stopped at lights and that alternator was 65 amps max.....this new alternator idles at 75 amps and its max is 130.....shouldn't the 75 amps at idle be enough for the lights not to dim since my older alternator max was 65 and it didnt dim while at max @jeffchilcott
