BMW M Roadster System

Hi all, I am new here.
I have an M Roadster (Z3) that I am trying to figure out what to do to include a subwoofer into my system. In case you don't know how the car is laid out, the trunk is pretty well sealed from the cabin, not completely air tight, but enough to where sound quality will be hindered with a subwoofer in the there.

So, here is where I am at;
I am thinking of dropping the glove box all together and building an enclosure that will integrate into the dashboard that will hold an 8" woofer or two of the Elemental Designs EU700's. The woofers would be downward firing. I know enclosure volume is extremely important. I would have to measure everything out. The only other option would be creating something with the stock enclosure, not much space at all and would be firing straight up, imaging would be shot.

Does anybody have any experience with these cars? Have you heard a system in one with subs in the trunk and does anybody have any other ideas as to what I can do with this thing?

For the HU, I have an Alpine Cda-9857
Front speakers are DLS UP5
Amps (2) are Elemental Designs Nine.2x
I would also imagine I could benefit from sound deadening, especially if I go the glove box route, Does anybody have experience with the eDead V.1 fron Elemental designs.

I don't have any experience with Z3's, but can you make a port from the trunk to the cabin?  That way the airspace will be shared and your sound quality will increase.

What I'm doing with ours is taking the back enclosure that the rears are in now and fiberglassing in a 10 " sub there. There's enough space and also some of the newer subs are shallow mount so that you can have it installed with the magnet towards the trunk.

I would rather not cut into the structure like that, especially in a convertible where there is hardly enough support anyway to stop the chassis from twisting. Not a bad idea though. Thank you

Are you keeping the sub behind the wall? In other words, maintaining a stock look? Do you have any progress pictures?

I have a 2001 M Roadster and had a 1998 M Roadster. I did a complete write up on my 1998 Stereo System install that should be very useful to you.

You can buy a pre-made enclosure from roadstersound.com that goes in the stock subwoofer compartment between the seats. You can get one that either uses a JL Audio 8w3v2 8.0" sub or JL Audio 6w0 6.5" sub.

Also, some people have recommended not to use speakers behind the rear seats. I found that they do contribute and I'll be adding them to my 2001 M Roadster (came with a system, but didn't use rear speakers).

I have actually had your page bookmarked for quite a while. It had me thinking of doing 6.5" componenets in the kick panels, I took the easy way out however and bought 5.25" components.

I have read that the 8" version of the roadstersound boxes have an issue with the design. There seems to be a section of the box (made for clearance) that intrudes on the subwoofer's performance. I also don't really like the idea of the subwoofer shooting straight up in the air, in a convertible no less. I still have some time to think about it, I have to wait for a few more things to come for my system.

We're going to start it in May/June and have it done for later summer

Have you seen the front end of a Boxter yet Rob ?? The stupid thing is tank and to try to some wiring through the front of the car to the back is most annoying !!
